The Faith of Dwight Stephenson
All the players seen above are some of the best Miami Dolphins players of all time. The game of football has been a huge part of all these men’s lives, but for one of the men mentioned above there is something else that has been a big part of his life. Dwight Stephenson is a Christian with great faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus has meant a lot in his life and he took some time to speak at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event. During this event Dwight goes on to talk about God and the people that have been placed in his life at the right times. He goes on to talk about the influence that coach Paul Bryant had on him while he was at the University of Alabama. Dwight went on to say this about his coach,
“There were two things coach Bryant felt were important – family and having God in your life. The other two things he thought were important were football and getting your education at the University of Alabama.” Stephenson went on to say that his coach helped make him into the person he is today. Dwight continued to speak at this event, and he went on further to say this,
“I think one thing we all have in common is God is first and foremost in our lives.”
Mentorship & Putting God First
This shows the faith that Stephenson has and how he puts God first in his life…even above football. We can all learn from Stephenson and see how important it is to put God first in everything that you do. As we see from Dwight’s experience and what he has said is not only that he puts God first, but that he had people there to help guide him along the way in his life. This connects with scripture in multiple different ways and the Bible has some things to say about helping others and guiding them. In Proverbs 27:17 it goes on to say this about people helping each other in their faith:
“Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
In Proverbs 22:6 it says the following about guiding and training others,
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
The Bible also says the following in Matthew 6:33 about putting God first,
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Help Strengthen Someone’s Faith
There are many verses in scripture that go along with the ideas of putting God first and mentorship throughout life. We har these from not only Dwight Stephenson, but from the Bible. God’s word is so powerful. We all can help strengthen the faith of the people around us and Dwight realizes that. I challenge you to not only work on challenging yourself and growing in your own faith, but to challenge and help somebody else grow in their own faith. Who will you help today?
