The Kawhi Leonard jersey is a very popular one and he just won an NBA championship while with Toronto. The franchise is hoping that he will be able to help bring a title to the city of Los Angeles as well. That is one thing that would get a player on the list of the best Los Angeles Clippers basketball players of all time; a championship title. If you can bring the franchise and organization their first ever NBA title, then there is a pretty good chance you would make the list of the best Los Angeles Clippers basketball players. It doesn’t get much better than winning a title. That’s one of the things you play for and strive for as a player and organization. We will have to watch and see to find out when the Clippers will get their first title. When do you think they will win their first NBA title?
Chris Paul’s Christian Faith
While the game of basketball is important to all these players, some of the best Los Angeles Clippers basketball players mentioned above believe there is a greater purpose and meaning to life than just the game of basketball. They have faith and believe in something bigger than themselves. Jesus Christ. Chris Paul is a Christian and grew up in the church. While in the NBA, Chris was a part of a type of interview where the fans were able to ask and submit questions for him to answer. One question that was submitted was a fan asking Chris if he was a question. In response to that fans question, Chris Paul responded the following:
“Yes, I grew up in the church and still go to church every Sunday if we don’t have practice. It’s always something that my parents instilled in me. I’ve grown to be pretty devout in my faith.”
Along with the quote above from Chris Paul, he has mentioned his in other interviews as well. This shows the importance of his faith to him. In another interview, Chris Paul said:
“I am so thankful that my parents raised me and C.J. to depend on God’s guidance and our faith in Him, and to always be thankful for what we receive.”
Chris grew up with parents that had faith in Christ as well. The belief in God, the trust in his guidance, and the importance of thankfulness were all key parts to Chris and his family. These are great things for all of us to take, learn from, and apply to our own lives. Trusting in God’s guidance can be difficult at times…especially when it seems so uncertain. There are so many times throughout our lives where things seem so uncertain, but it is important for us to have faith and realize who is in control. This is a lot easier said than done. For you who are reading this, I challenge you to trust in God’s guidance, have faith in Him, and to recognize the importance of being thankful in your own lives.
Blake Griffin’s Faith
Chris Paul is not the only player from the list of the best Los Angeles Clippers basketball players who has great faith. Blake Griffin joins Chris in those beliefs. Blake’s father was a pastor and Griffin states that he has known God for a long time. Blake considers himself to have been saved since he was six years old. He was home-schooled for awhile and then attended a Christian High School in Oklahoma. When Blake went on to play basketball at the college level, he joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His faith has always been a big part of his life and something that he wanted to continue to be involved in at each age.
Dealing With Injury
Blake has been successful at the game of basketball for a long time but knows there is a greater purpose to life than the game. Griffin was the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft. He had a lot on his shoulders and a lot of expectations. Blake got injured in the pre-season and was unable to play his first year in the NBA. This had to have been devastating to him, but he had a different outlook on the situation. It appears he had peace throughout that time, which is what the presence of God can do. This is what Blake had to say about the injury prior to his first NBA season:
“I was just excited about the opportunity to play in the NBA. I was ready to go, but everything came crashing down, so to speak. But these things happen. That was God’s way of just humbling me.”
Blake Griffin knew there was a plan for the injury and a reason why he had to go through that experience. Knowing God is on your side and having Him as a part of your life provides great peace and joy throughout many situations in life. During another interview, Blake was asked about whether he believes in evolution or creationism. This is Griffin’s response to that question:
“I was raised in a Christian household and went to a Christian high school, so I believe in creationism, for sure.”
Blake, along with many other people, believes in the idea of creationism. The idea that the universe and living things came to be from the acts of divine creation…from the power of God. Blake knows what he believes in and where he stands in his faith. My question and challenge to you who are reading this is to ask yourself that question. What do you believe in? Look at all the amazing things in this world and how many blessings we truly have. Do you believe this just happened on its own through evolution or do you believe in the beautiful power of God?
Change Someone’s Life
The best Los Angeles Clippers basketball players have had some great basketball careers. These men have had a great impact on the franchise and the team they were able to be a part of. More important than the game of basketball, some of these men have a greater faith in Jesus Christ. They know what is truly important in life and were able to share their faith and beliefs throughout their years. Some of these players are still playing today and hopefully they will continue to spread the Word of God. Even when they stop playing. All of us can make a difference in the world and help someone throughout their day. A helping hand goes a long way. Sharing your faith with someone else may just change that person’s path for eternity. Let us learn from the athletes mentioned above by trusting in God and sharing our faith with others when God presents us with that opportunity. You don’t have to be an NBA star to change somebody’s life.
