When you were a kid, who did you dream about being like one day? Was it a musician, a political figure, or an athlete? People all over the world have their own role-models and stars they look up to or hope to be like one day. Many people look to athletes. Kids playing football in the backyard with their neighborhood friends often act like the next Joe Montana or Jerry Rice. They look up to these great stars and dream about being as good and successful as them one day. Did you have a favorite NFL star when you were younger or someone you looked up to? There are many different football players and that makes for all kinds of different NFL Throwback Jerseys.

All Kinds Of Jerseys

The National Football League has been around for almost 100 years, as it was founded back in 1920. This has caused there to be many different types of jerseys come up through the years will all different designs and color schemes. Some of these NFL teams have stayed with the same team colors for their organization, while others have not. There are some teams who have completely different colors than when they first started. Tampa Bay Change

Let’s take a look at the different NFL Throwback Jerseys and how some of your favorite teams have changed throughout the years! The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one team that had a jersey back in the day that has nothing to do with the same colors that they have today. The Buccaneers today have colors of black, white, and red. One of their throwback jerseys that stands out the most was their orange creamsicle colored jerseys. Tampa Bay also had a different logo, which was the Bucco Bruce logo. They have a new look and logo in today’s game.

New York Change

Another team that had old jerseys with a completely different color scheme was the New York Jets. Their old jerseys were yellow, white, and a dark navy or black color. They were nothing like their jerseys today or close to the same colors. They had some classic NFL Throwback jerseys. In the NFL game today, the Jets wear the colors of white and green. The organizations colors and the jerseys they have worn in the past sure have changed and updated in today’s game. It is always interesting to see how organizations change and develop!

Same General Colors

There are some other NFL teams that have kept the same general colors over the years, but their jerseys and logos have changed. The Indianapolis Colts have always had white and blue uniforms, but their classic throwback jerseys consisted of a different helmet color. They used to have an all dark blue helmet as part of their classic jersey. The Tennessee Titans old jerseys were a real light blue color and they had a different logo than they have today. On the Titans helmets it used to represent the Oil Derrick logo. These were some classic NFL throwback jerseys.

Slight Changes

The Denver Broncos had the same colors, but had all orange uniforms. On the side of the Broncos helmets they had the letter “B” instead of the bronco. The Philadelphia Eagles had a different color green, but still had the wings on the side of the helmet. The jerseys were a light green color. The Pittsburgh Steelers throwback jerseys consisted of black and yellow stripes. The numbers on these jerseys were inside of a white rectangle. The Steelers not only had a very unique NFL throwback jersey, but they had one of the greatest teams back in the day as well.

The Steel Curtain

During the 1970’s the Steelers had a dominant squad. They had one of the greatest defenses in the history of the NFL. The Steelers defense earned the nickname of the “Steel Curtain” because of how dominant they were. The Steelers ended up winning 4 Super Bowls in the span of 6 years. They won the championships in 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979. Much of the success of this Steelers team is attributed to the greatness of their defense. The most well-known players that made up this defense included “Mean” Joe Greene, L.C. Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, and Dwight White. The “Steel Curtain” will always be remembered as a dominant throwback team.

The Green Bay Packers of the 1960’s is another legendary throwback NFL team. These Packers of the 1960’s were led by Coach Vince Lombardi along with the star quarterback of Bart Starr. They ended up winning 5 championships in the years of 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966, and 1967. The Packers are the only team in NFL history to win three straight titles. They also did this in 1929, 1930, and 1931. There is no other team that has accomplished this. Vince Lombardi was a great leader and is considered one of the all-time greatest coaches. Starr and Lombardi both made it into the Hall of Fame. The Green Bay Packers hold the NFL record with the most championships among any team with 13.

What Makes Up A True Legend?

Not only have the teams changed and come and gone, but the players have come and gone as well. There are many different NFL players with some sweet looking NFL throwback jerseys. The NFL has seen quarterbacks as good as Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas to other players like Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, and Lawrence Taylor. All of these men have memorable moments and careers within the game of football. There are many others and names who weren’t mentioned that have had legendary careers as well. Is one better than the other or one player’s throwback jersey more valuable than another? Who do you think is the greatest to ever play the game?

Many Factors

In the game of football there is all kinds of different aspects that can determine who is the best. You could be recognized as the best by the number of Super Bowl Championships that you’ve won, the number of touchdowns you’ve scored, or the number of tackles you’ve made. Should it all be based on statistics or should other factors be involved? Other things to take a look at would be how dominant the athlete was; the player’s strength, size, and speed could be considered. Yet another factor could be how the player impacted his teammates and the people around him. Did the athlete make the people around him better in a positive way to contribute to the overall success of the team? All of these are factors that one could consider when determining the best NFL players to play the game and whose throwback jersey is the greatest.

Along with the men previously listed, other NFL legends could include Walter Payton, Reggie White, and the more recent retiree in Peyton Manning. Everyone will have their own opinion on who is the greatest and what they are basing their criterion off of. Some people consider the number of rings the most important, while others look at the type of impact one athlete may have had during a certain era. The real question comes down to you.   1. You can’t grow up in America, much less in Wisconsin, without picking up football by osmosis. I grew up during The Pack’s heyday with Vince Lombardi and Brett Starr. I also attended a few SuperBowl parties along the way.

    However, I was surprised that something like throwback jerseys even existed. I knew fans bought jerseys, but always thought they were for the current team. I’m not a football fan so reading this post was my first exposure to nostalgic jerseys.

  4. I like the steel curtain. I remember that when I played NFL on xbox. It was a good team in legends selections or something. The jersey looks nice and I may get it for my brother’s birthday.
