Drew Brees is a living legend. He is still currently playing in the NFL, but he may not be for much longer. Brees is 39 years old and still playing quarterback. Childhood Years

Drew Brees was born in the city of Austin, Texas. Drew had a brother named Reid and they became very close to each other during their childhood years. Their parents ended up divorcing and this was hard on them both. They drew closer during this time and had to rely and lean on one another. From going back and forth between the two homes they always had each other. Drew ended up playing basketball, football, and baseball during his high school years. He was quite the athlete and received some notice for his ability to play the game of baseball. Brees got some attention from college recruiters for baseball, but he continued to stick with football as well.

The Football Star

Drew Brees excelled at the game of football and ended up leading his high school football team to a 16 wins and 0 loss season during his junior season. They ended up winning the state championship as well and this got him some notice from the college football recruiters. Drew ended up getting two offers to play college ball and further his academics. These two offers came from Purdue University and the University of Kentucky. Brees was a solid student in the classroom and decided to go to Purdue University to further his academics and his football career.

The Student-Athlete

While at Purdue, Drew Brees continued his athletic success. He ended up putting up great numbers and holds many Big Ten Conference records. He holds these records in passing, touchdown passes, attempts, completions, and offensive yards. During his senior season he led the Boilermakers to two big upsets over the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. These are two teams that have always been big powerhouses in the Big Ten Conference, but Brees and Purdue took them down. Drew ended up leading Purdue to their first ever Big Ten title. That was a big accomplishment for the team and the university as a whole. Brees would end up getting inducted into the Purdue Hall of Fame.

Academic Importance

While away from the game of football, Drew was a good student in the classroom. He stayed for all four years and ended up getting a degree in Industrial Management. This shows the importance that he placed on academics and being successful in that as well. Drew was a student-athlete through and through. He ended up getting some attention from NFL scouts due to his success on the football field and the accomplishments he had.

Professional Career

The San Diego Chargers drafted Drew Brees in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He was the 32nd pick overall and the second quarterback to go in the draft. The quarterback that was drafted before him went by the name of Michael Vick. He was a very skilled athlete as well. Two great quarterbacks were taken and Drew Brees ended up starting his career in 2001 when he made his first appearance. During his first chance to play he actually did pretty well. During this first NFL game he threw for 221 yards and ended up getting his first touchdown as well. That sure must have been exciting for him to throw for his first NFL touchdown. Brees showed his skill and ability to play at this high level. Drew ended up being named the starter for the 2002 season with the San Diego Chargers. He had a solid second season in the NFL and his career began to take off. While Drew struggled in some games, he still showed his ability and potential.

Headed To New Orleans

The San Diego Chargers ended up drafting another skilled quarterback in the 2004 Draft. This kid, Philip Rivers, was a good young talent that they had picked up. He was a threat to Drew and the Chargers invested a great deal in Rivers. Brees continued to play with the Chargers, but became a free agent in 2006 and ended up joining the New Orleans Saints. He played with the team in New Orleans for the rest of his career and is still with them today. Drew has had a very successful NFL career and the Saints sure are glad they picked up Brees. He has been great for them. Throughout his career so far he has been the NFL passing yards leader 7 different times and the NFL passing touchdowns leader 4 different times. Brees is an 11-time Pro Bowler, a 2-time Offensive Player of the Year, and won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2006. He has also brought the city of New Orleans a Super Bowl title and ended up winning the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award that year as well.

Super Bowl Ring

The year of 2009 was the year when Drew Brees was finally able to put one of those big shiny diamond rings on his finger. This is when he ended up winning his first NFL Super Bowl and brought back the title to the city of New Orleans. He led the Saints to a great season and they ended up facing the Indianapolis Colts in the championship. Brees showed up to play and was locked in that night. He was ready to go. He had 32 completions, 2 touchdowns, and 288 yards. It was hard for the Colts defense to stop Brees that night and the Saints ended up winning with a final score of 31-17. Drew won the Super Bowl MVP and the city of New Orleans exploded with excitement. Along with this award, Brees won a few other awards. He was named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and the AP Male Athlete of the Year. He received these awards due to his success on the field and off of it as well. While off the field Drew was involved in charity work. With the city of New Orleans getting hit by the big hurricane, Hurricane Katrina, he helped in the reconstruction of the city. Brees helped in the rebuilding of New Orleans. He was more than just a football player for the city and wanted to give back to the community.

Faith And Family

Drew Brees is a family man and is married to his wife Brittany. Drew and Brittany met while at Purdue University and their love for each other only continued to grow from there. They have four kids today. Three are boys and one is a girl. The Brees family lives in New Orleans and when they travel they tend to go out to San Diego for vacation. Drew wants to incorporate strong faith and family values within his family. He understands the importance of family and is also a Christian. He knows there is a greater purpose to life than just the game of football. Drew has confidence in Jesus Christ and realizes how important his faith is. There is nothing more important in life than that. Drew labels his faith as a top priority in his life. While Drew loves the game of football and is quite good at it, he knows there is more to life than that.

Drew’s Future

Drew Brees is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and has put up some phenomenal numbers throughout the years. He has one Super Bowl under his belt, but will he end up winning another championship or will he be able to put up some great numbers in the latter part of his career? Tune in to find out!
