One of the best players in the game of baseball today goes by the name of Bryce Harper. He is considered by many to be at the very top of the list alongside Mike Trout. This outfielder from Nevada has incredible skill and power at the plate. A Bryce Harper jersey is a very popular item and many fans all over the nation look to have one. Bryce Harper was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Harper grew up loving the game of baseball and played in youth leagues around the Las Vegas area. He ended up playing with fellow MLB stars Kris Bryant and Joey Gallo. It is interesting to see how they all played together in the same city when they were kids and now they are all competing against each other at the highest level. Bryce worked hard at the game of baseball and attributes much of his work ethic to his father. He stated that his father always worked hard and that is where Harper got it from.
Passing Out Of High School
Bryce Harper’s dad helped him work at the game of baseball and Bryce continued to improve. He played at the high school level, but did not have a normal high school career like many other kids. Harper went to Las Vegas High School, but only attended it for two years. He decided to try and pass the GED so that he could test out of high school and move on. He wanted to do this so that he would then be eligible for the amateur draft. Baseball was life for Bryce Harper. In 2009, Bryce Harper passed the GED test and became eligible for the next year’s draft. He decided to enroll and play at the College of Southern Nevada in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Bryce wanted to prove that he could play at the college level for the upcoming draft in June…so he did just that.
The league that Bryce Harper had joined used wooden bats during the season, which allowed for Harper to showcase how he could swing the lumber. While with Southern Nevada he hit with a batting average of over .440 and had 31 home runs. The schools previous record was 12. I think he was proving his ability just fine. During the NJCAA World Series Harper played lights out and in three games he went 14 for 18 with 4 home runs and multiple extra base hits. The four home runs came in one single game and due to all of this success he was getting lots of notice. Bryce earned the Conference Player of the Year Award and also received the Golden Spikes Award in 2010. Harper had shown what he was capable of and was arguably the greatest college player in the country at the time.
With the number one overall pick the Washington Nationals selected Bryce Harper in the 2010 MLB Draft. He had done it. Bryce had graduated from high school early, proved in one season that he could compete and play at the college level, and had been drafted to play professional baseball. He was not just drafted anywhere, but became the very first pick in the draft. Bryce was a phenom and a one of a kind player that many teams wanted to get their hands on. Teams saw the unbelievable amount of potential in the young player and so did the sports agents.
Bryce Harper had one of the most popular sports agents in the world in Scott Boras. Scott helped Harper get a great deal and he ended up signing a 5-year deal with the Nationals for 9.9 million. This deal came with a 6.25 million dollar signing bonus and eight semesters of college tuition paid for as well. Bryce was taken care of, but let’s be honest…do you really think he will need to go back to school? Looks like the game of baseball will be taking care of him with the type of talent and abilities that he has. This young talented star was on the rise.
Big League Debut
Bryce Harper started out in the Washington Nationals minor league system and has worked his way up from there. He had a great fall season and went from Single-A all the way up to Triple-A. In early 2012 Bryce was called up to make his big league debut. In April 2012, Harper made his debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers and got his first major league hit. His success continued from there, but some people didn’t like how Bryce was so young and so successful. Harper was intentionally hit by Cole Hamels in May of 2012. Cole admitted to hitting him on purpose. Bryce continued to prove his ability and ended up stealing home against Hamels during that same inning. Harper wanted to make a statement and it sure is funny how the game of baseball works sometimes isn’t it? The city of Washington loved how this kid played.
Bryce Harper has accomplished a lot throughout his career with the Washington Nationals and he is still quite young. Throughout his time in the big leagues he has been named an All-Star six different times and was named as the National League Rookie of the Year during his first season in 2012. Harper had a sensational year in 2015 when he won the Silver Slugger Award, the NL Hank Aaron Award and was the NL home run leader. Due to this great season Bryce was named as the NL Most Valuable Player in 2015. He had some great seasons and in 2018 he ended up winning the Home Run Derby…at his home park. Fans all over the country were reppin’ the number 34 Bryce Harper jersey.
Home Run Derby
Each year the Home Run Derby is held the night before the All-Star Game and the one in July 2018 was a special one for the city of Washington D.C. This Derby was being held in the Nationals Park and their very own Bryce Harper was competing in it. It sure would be special to pull off a win in front of the home crowd. Harper had made it to the final round to face off against Chicago Cubs player, Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber had hit 18 home runs in the final round which would be tough to beat, but Bryce came up and tied him at 18. With the clock winding down and just seconds to go Bryce ended up hitting the winning home run. It was pretty much a walk off win and he had won in the most dramatic way possible. The stadium erupted and the fans loved it. This is one night that Harper and the city of Washington won’t ever forget.
Bryce Harper had a great career while in Washington. He brought lots of excitement to the city and the team. The Bryce Harper jersey was flying off the shelves and many fans all across the country had their very own Bryce Harper jersey. His time with the Nationals came to an end though after the 2018 season. Harper became a free-agent and ended up signing the biggest contract in baseball at the time with the Philadelphia Phillies. This contract was a 330-million-dollar contract over the span of 13 years. The biggest contract in all of sports…for only a little while though. Mike Trout broke this with a 430-million-dollar contract in the same off-season period. The Mike Trout jersey is another very popular sports jersey. Bryce would be continuing his career in the city of Philadelphia. The Philly streets would soon be filled with the Bryce Harper jersey.
First Year In Philly
The fans of Philadelphia were excited to have Bryce Harper as a part of their team. His very first hit with the Phillies was a 465-foot moonshot into the second deck of Citizens Bank Park. Bryce struggled some throughout his first year in the Phillies uniform. He got some boos from the crowd during some moments, while getting outrageous cheers during other moments. One unforgettable moment for Bryce came on the 15th of August when he hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth against the Chicago Cubs. He hit the walk off home run and then proceeded to sprint around the bases to get back to his teammates. Check out the video of this great moment below:
There were some good times and bad times throughout the 2019 season, but the Phillies did not end up making the playoffs. Harper is still looking for his first World Series title. Maybe it will come in the next few years for this star. He is hoping to still be wearing that popular Bryce Harper jersey deep into October.
Old Team Becoming Champions
It’s actually kind of ironic which team ended up winning the World Series that year…the Washington Nationals. That was Bryce’s old team and they won the 2019 World Series by beating the Houston Astros in seven games. There are certainly no hard feelings coming from Harper on the Nationals World Series victory. He stated in an interview that both sides have made their decisions and that Philly is where he wants to be. Bryce is extremely happy for the success of the Nationals and that team. When asked if there was any jealousy this is what Harper stated:
“No, because like I said, I made my decision.” He then goes on to say, “You know, jealousy isn’t good. For me, it’s about having the gratitude to go out and do what I do each day and not having an attitude toward anybody else.” From this article with the Washington Post, he went on to continue and say “I think it’s about being able to be the person that I am.” Bryce stated, “I’m so happy for them. You know how hard it is to get into the postseason and win games. For them to be able to put it together this year the way they have, it’s an amazing thing.”
Attitude Of Gratitude
We can see that Harper has an attitude of gratitude. Harper is very happy for that team and the guys that he grew up playing with. He has no jealousy or hard feelings, and this is something we can all learn from. Too many times in life people are looking at other peoples lives and wishing they were them or wishing they had what those people had. What is important is looking at your own life and seeing how blessed you are in your own ways. Thankfulness and gratitude are something that will truly change your perspective and the way you live. Don’t look at what everyone else is doing but look at your own life and what you can do. Where has God placed you? We all have our own paths in life. God has something different and something special for each one of us and it’s important for us to realize that. Look at your life right now and where you are at. God has you right where he wants you. Trust Him.
One Of A Kind
The Bryce Harper jersey is seen all across the baseball world and community. Bryce Harper is one of the top players in the game of baseball and it is fun to watch him play. Seeing him go from high school to the big leagues on a fast track is very exciting and not many can say they have done that. He is truly one of a kind. Bryce does not seem to be consumed with the lives of others, but is thankful for where he is at and the opportunity he has been given. We are all on our own paths in life and can all learn from that. Where will the rest of Bryce Harper’s career take him? Do you think he will be able to bring home a title to the city of Philadelphia? Keep watching to find out.
