Playing Offense And Defense

There was one player that has made the list of the best Green Bay Packers players of all time that played on both the offensive and defensive side of the football. His name is Don Hutson. Don is mainly known for his receiving skills as a wide receiver, but he also had many interceptions throughout his career as a safety. Don played for the city of Green Bay for his entire career as well and is one of the older legends in the history of the Packers. You don’t see players nowadays who play on both sides. That is something that is very rare in the National Football League today. Most guys have a certain specialty and are either on the offensive or defensive side of the game. Don must have got worn out as that would be tiring as well. Not only did he play on both sides of the football, but he did it very successfully. That is what has got him on the list of the best Green Bay Packers players.

Don Hutson

Don Hutson led the Packers to three NFL championship victories in 1936, 1939, and 1944. Winning championship titles is a good way to not only become a fan favorite, but to also make it on the list of the best Green Bay Packers players. Along with these championships, Don was also a 4-time All-Star from 1939 to 1942. He won the NFL MVP in 1941 and 1942 and was named to the First Team All Pro in eight straight seasons. Hutson was also named the NFL receptions leader eight times and the NFL receiving yards leader seven times. He was a 9-time NFL receiving touchdowns leader and became the NFL interceptions leader in 1940. Yes, Don led the league in receiving touchdowns and interceptions in the same year. Now that is impressive. He became a part of the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team and the NFL 1930’s All-Decade Team. The Green Bay Packers retired his jersey number 14 and put Don in their team’s Hall of Fame. Don is in the NFL Hall of Fame as well and is not only a part of the best Green Bay Packers players, but the best NFL players of all time.

More Than Just Football

The players listed above are recognized as some of the best Green Bay Packers players of all time. Some of these players believe in something much greater than the game of football and realize that there is more to life than just football. They realize they have a deeper purpose and that there is greater meaning to life. Reggie White was one of those believers and was even nicknamed the “Minister of Defense”. Reggie had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and even stated “I’ve always believed since I was a kid that God was going to allow me to play professional football, to use it as a platform to proclaim and live out the name of Jesus.” White was unashamed of his faith and would speak at conferences to help spread the word of God. Many of his teammates say he was very outspoken and very bold. They say that Reggie was a great example. White knew there was a greater purpose in life and wanted to share it with others. There is nothing greater than that, to spread the Gospel and the love of God to others.

Faith In Christ

Another one of the best Green Bay Packers players mentioned from above is a believer in Christ as well. Brett Favre is a part of the Christian faith, but does not seem as out spoken about it as Reggie White. When Favre got inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, he started off by thanking Jesus Christ. From the speech Favre said “Thank you Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour. Believe me, I’m blessed. I’m an extremely blessed man.” Favre knows where true life is found and that it is not in the game of football. Just like Reggie, he knows there is a greater purpose in life and he sees just how much God has blessed him. It is great to see men who have been so successful give the glory to God, the one who deserves it.

  1. I do not follow the Green Bay Packers as much as I did when Brett Farve was playing. That guy was just unbelievable and I truly could not wait to see him play. He defied all odds on many of occasions.

I was also a big fan of Reggie White but not so much because of football (eventhough he was awesome) but I got attached to him because of his faith in God. It is not easy finding a professional player these days who boldly lets others know about God.

I can really appreciate this list of awesome players. Thanks for sharing.

    • Those guys were two great stars and fun players to watch. Yes, I agree it is very awesome to see someone like Reggie share his faith so boldly with others. I believe that is what God has called us to do! Thank you for the kind words, I am glad you enjoyed.

  3. I know Don Hutson as a spectacular wide receiver, I didn’t know he was known for his interceptions as well. Of course being a Philly fave, I didn’t pay much attention but this is great info man. Thanks
